Shared workshop
16 December 2025Context
Prefix is proposing the creation of a shared workshop dedicated to woodworking, metalworking and other forms of craftsmanship. Located in the Neuchâtel or Three-Lakes region, this space aims to make tools and facilities accessible that are often difficult to assemble on an individual basis.
The workshop is open to anyone wishing to renovate, build, restore or create. Designed as an open and collaborative space, it encourages learning by doing, experimentation and the development of technical skills in a friendly, well-equipped environment.
Objective
The project aims to design and develop a fully equipped workshop offering:
- Individual workstations and storage areas for ongoing projects
- Dedicated spaces for specific activities such as sanding, painting and sandblasting
- A range of fixed machines that are costly and impractical to own individually
- A library of portable tools, available for on-site use or hire
- A selection of standard hardware and materials to enable projects to start immediately
Approach
The project is being developed progressively, following three main stages:
- Feasibility study (ongoing) — analysis of needs, assessment of potential locations, definition of the economic model and operational framework.
- Workshop design — layout of the spaces, procurement of equipment, definition of usage rules, and implementation of the logistical and safety framework.
- Pilot phase — a test opening for a limited group of users to validate ergonomics, usage models, equipment relevance and the overall experience.
Join the initiative
As part of Prefix’s project incubator, this workshop is open to people who wish to contribute to its design, share ideas or feedback, or follow its development as a hands-on learning experience.
Taking part in the project means helping to shape a living space dedicated to practice and knowledge sharing, while discovering project management methods and tools applied to a concrete initiative that benefits the community.
